The History Of Kratom Post Date: 16 March, 2023
Kratom, or Mitragyna speciosa, is a tropical tree native to the southeast Asian nations of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea. There is a rich history of traditional Kratom use in this part of the world, both for medicinal and recreational purposes.
For westerners, the history of Kratom dates back to the early 19th century when seafarers noticed it being used by laborers in Thailand to help them work longer hours with less fatigue. Kratom and its relatives are still used throughout southeast Asia and India for a variety of purposes; for pain relief, relaxation, and as a stimulant.
In 1943, the Thai government passed the Kratom Act, making it illegal to plant Kratom trees or possess Kratom leaves. In spite of the government's efforts to ban Kratom, it continued to be used, and is still being used, in both rural and urban areas of Thailand as well as throughout southeast Asia.
In the 1960s, Kratom started to gain popularity in the west with those seeking the benefits of traditional natural alternatives in comparison to pharmaceuticals.
Today, Kratom products are widely available in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Some will use it in powder and tea form, for pain relief, anxiety, and as a natural alternative to prescription opioids.
Kratom's active compounds, mitragynine and 7- hydroxymitragynine, have been the subject of many scientific studies, and it is believed by some that Kratom may have potential health benefits including pain relief, mood enhancement, increased libido, and as an anti- inflammatory.
